Philipsburg is the capital of the overseas Dutch colony of St. Maarten. Boasting beautiful views of the Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond, it is an ideal location for a Caribbean holiday. On St. Maarten, there is adventure to be found throughout the beautiful island with snorkeling, swimming and horseback riding available. Philipsburg is also a hotspot for bargain hunters, with a mile-long commercial district with a range of duty-free shops. Bridgetown is the island's largest city and is a vibrant and historic cultural gem. Situated on the right bank of the Rio Tapajos is the district Alter do Chão in the Brazilian city of Santarém. The former village benefited from the Amazon rubber boom but suffered from a recession soon after. Nowadays, the district relies solely on tourism to support itself economically. Alter do Chão is the main tourist spot of Santarém, offering visitors and locals alike a beautiful freshwater beach with white sand.

Manaus is the capital of Amazonas, Brazil's largest state, which is almost entirely covered by the Amazon rainforest. The surrounding jungle is home to various species of monkeys and birds. As Manaus is situated on the banks of the Rio Negro just a few kilometres from the mouth of the Amazon, the city benefited very well from the Amazon rubber boom, resulting in interesting architecture around town.

Boca da Valeria is a small Indigenous Brazilian village of about 100 inhabitants on the Amazon River. With no major roads around, the village is only accessible by boat. Visitors can catch a glimpse of what everyday life is like in an Amazonian village: greeting indigenous people in traditional garb, observing the local flora and fauna up close and experiencing native customs and traditions.

Known as Brazil's capital of happiness, the city of Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia. The city was declared a World Heritage Site in the year 1985 due to its historical monuments from the 17th and 19th century. The city is well known for its Portuguese colonial architecture found in its Pelourinho neighbourhood. It’s is also renown for its African influence which can be best experienced in the unique music and cuisine. The city is also considered the home of the Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira.

Rio de Janeiro is famous for many things. The statue ‘Christ the Redeemer’ on the Sugar Loaf is instantly recognisable and has become a symbol of the city and of Brazil more widely. Rio de Janeiro is also surrounded by beautiful beaches, such as the Copacabana and Joatinga. Carnival is the cultural main event on Brazil’s calendar and the most colourful and lively one is found in Rio de Janeiro.

Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, is the city with the highest quality of life in South America. The city centre offers a mix of old and modern with the colonial buildings of the old town and modern skyscrapers homing financial and political institutions. For those looking to have a more relaxed and laid back stay, Montevideo is surrounded by beautiful, pristine, uncrowded beaches.

Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, is a flamboyant and colourful cruise destination. Old European colonial grandeur meets Latin flair in this metropolis. Cruisers can experience this through the architecture, cuisine and one of many tango performances which take place throughout the city. Walvis Bay, 'Whale Bay' in English, is a city and bay on the west coast of Namibia. The city is home to the main sea port in Namibia and is the third largest city in the country. 67,000 people live in Walvis Bay on the Atlantic coast. In the city there is the Rhenish Mission Church, which is a National Monument in Namibia. Outside the city numerous tours and excursions are offered. Besides seals and dolphin tours, a trip to the southern lagoon is recommended. The 5,000-year-old lagoon is Namibia's oldest and largest.

The harbour town of Luderitz is named after a German merchant from Bremen 'Adolf Lüderitz' on behalf of whom the area in question was bought. A lot of the architecture is typical to the Art Nouveau period, which was prominent around the turn of the 20th century. Luderitz is very charming with its village feel, its churches and small bakeries. However, it is the surrounding nature that makes this place so amazing - flamingo flocks, penguin colonies and the most pristine landscapes are just 10km away from Luderitz.

Cape Town is the third largest city of South Africa with a population of almost 3.5 million and has been the city of the South African Parliament since 2004. Between October and march, Cape Town is a popular attraction for many tourism which is shown by their growing numbers in recent years. This in turn has made Cape town an important economic sector for the country. One of the favourite sites of tourists is the Table Mountain but the city has plenty more to offer. Museums, historic buildings, Castles and the oldest surviving building in South Africa are all options worth considering.
