Maio is the easternmost of the Sotavento islands of Cape Verde. The small island is famous for its squeaky clean beaches and a relaxed, almost dazed way of life. Maio is dotted with small picturesque fishing villages, like Calheta to the north. These are definitely worth a visit. However, the main purpose of a visit here, should be to relax and unwind on one of the many beautiful unspolit beaches.

Caravela Island is one of the Bijagos islands, which are situated off the coast of Guinea-Bissau, Western Africa. Distinguished as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the 88 Bijagos islands are a stunning example of pure, unadulterated nature. They are graced with white sand beaches, mangrove, palm trees and baobabs. Caravela is home to the Bidyogo people, whose way of life has not changed over thousands of years. As they have little communication with the mainland, their ancestral culture has been protected from outside influence. With long stretches of beaches and such an interesting culture, Carvela island is great for a relaxing getaway.
