The impressive Palais des Papes, was the former seat of the Pope and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a very popular attraction as is the UNESCO listed Pont Saint-Benezet bridge with its distnict arches which crosses the river Rhone. There is a vibrant art scene in Avignon, with many museums, in addition to the Festival D'Avignon, a well-known arts and culture festival held in the city.
Martigues, France is located about 30 kilometers south of Marseille. The city port is located on the Rhone river and used to be called Maritima in ancient times. However, nowadays it's flatteringly known as the "Venice of Provence".
