Wachau is situated between Melk and Krems, about 80 kilometers west of Vienna in Lower Austria, on the banks of the Danube. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 and offers some interesting ruins. These include the Aggstein ruins, the ruins of the castle and Dürnstein upper Ranna.

Passau, the 'City of Three Rivers' lies at the confluence of the rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz on the border with Austria. Attractions include several buildings from centuries past, the House of Lords situated on a hill and the Castle Museum Freudenhain.
Regensburg is the capital of Upper Palatinate district and is located in eastern Bavaria. Visit the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Rhine-Main-Danube Canal runs between the German towns of Bamburg and Kelheim via the historic city of Nuremberg, transporting thousands of river cruise ship passengers every year between the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.
