The city of Fort Lauderdale in the U.S. state of Florida and makes an ideal holiday destination. Due to the many canals in the city, Fort Lauderdale is also known as the American Venice. Royal Naval Dockyard was the principal base of the Royal Navy in the Western Atlantic between American independence and the Cold War. In 1957 most of the base closed down and the dockyard became a major port of entry into the island. The keep area is now the site of the Bermuda Maritime Museum and the Dolphin Quest attraction.
